Algoma University is located in Northern Ontario in the heart of Sault Ste. Marie (pronounced “Soo Saint Marie”), a city of 75,000 people. “The Soo”, as we locals call it, has all the amenities of a big city – shopping, entertainment, sports teams, festivals, and cultural activities – but without any of the hassle.
Whether living in our dormitories or in our townhouses, all of Algoma University’s residence options feature a private, single room. A single room provides students with the best learning and study environment. You’ll be able to set your own study schedule and develop your own routine without having to worry about interfering with someone else’s.
But rest assured, having a single room doesn’t mean you’ll be alone. There are countless opportunities to get involved or hang out with fellow residents. By living on residence you’ll be part of our residence family – a tight-knit group of students all learning to live on their own together. You’ll have access to special events like our annual September fair, which features a dunk tank, as well as dinners, banquets, and so much more. Plus, you might just get a throw a pie in the face of your Residence Don – who doesn’t want to do that?!
Our residences are centrally located on our campus and are within a two-minute walk to classes, computer labs, the George Leach Centre, the Speakeasy, cafeteria, and major transit routes. All feature high-speed wireless Internet, local phone services, and include weekly cleaning services in all bathrooms and common areas – what’s not to like about that?! Dorms are wheelchair accessible and staffed with Residence Advisors and Residence Dons, and include evening and overnight security staff and 24-hour video surveillance – you’ll never have to worry about your safety and security.
