Sime Darby teams up with KYS Education

21 Jul 2017

PETALING JAYA: Sime Darby Property Bhd has teamed up with KYS Education Group to form the KYS International School at the KL East integrated development yesterday.

The agreement outlined a long-term land lease arrangement between the developer and education provider, for the setting up of the international school on a six-acre site in KL East, said Sime Darby in a statement.

“The KYS International School is strategically positioned to tap into the expatriate market and higher income households, key demographics of KL East. The development of KYS International School in KL East will be undertaken independently by the KYS Education Group,” said the property developer.

Sime Darby Property managing director Datuk Jauhari Hamidi said that the company was proud that KYS had chosen KL East as the location for its new international school as the development did offer a conducive environment for education.

Once developed, the KYS International School in KL East will be able to accommodate up to 900 students and will cater for pre-school, primary and secondary education, following both the local KBSM (Kurikulum Baru Sekolah Menengah) curriculum and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). The international school will also be offering A-Level education.

“KYS International School at KL East is our first foray outside of Malacca. KYS has a reputation as one of the best schools in the country and we have produced good quality, all rounded students for the past 20 years. This collaboration with Sime Darby Property will give more students access to obtain high quality education delivered by KYS. We see this as the first step to further collaborations with Sime Darby Property in the future.” said KYS Education Group founder Tan Sri Halim Saad in a statement.

KL East is a 153-acre luxury development located within reach of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre and 800m from the Gombak LRT station (Kelana Jaya line).

Sime Darby Property is the property arm of Sime Darby Bhd. It has over 40 years built 21 townships and developments with a global reach that encompasses assets and operations across the Asia-Pacific region and the United Kingdom.

In the United Kingdom, as part of a Malaysian consortium, Sime Darby Property is the developer of the Battersea Power Station project in central London.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, Australia’s Ramsay Health Care Ltd told the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) that the company and its partner Sime Darby had aborted a plan to start a healthcare venture in Chengdu, China.

The companies had in November 2014 proposed to team up with a Chinese player Jinxin, which operates five hospitals in Chengdu.

Ramsay said yesterday that the deal had collapsed.

“Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care, a partnership between Ramsay Health Care Limited and Sime Darby, has decided not to proceed with the proposed joint venture in Chengdu, China, due to a number of threshold conditions precedent not being satisfied,” Ramsay said in a statement.
