Entry Requirements

  • A Level
    • BBC including Biology or Chemistry or Physics. 
    • GCSE grade C in Maths, English, Biology & Chemistry (or Double Award Science at C)
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma
    • Award of Diploma with 28 points overall with three HL subjects at grades 6, 5, 4 including a Science^ at minimum grade 5.
    • 4 points in SL Maths, English, Biology and Chemistry.
  • Other equivalent qualifications.

English Language Requirements:

  • IELTS (Academic): 6.0 overall, with no component below 5.5;
  • TOEFL Internet Based Test: 80 overall with a minimum of 17 in listening, 18 in reading, 20 in speaking and 17 in writing;
  • Pearson’s Test Academic English: 56 overall with a minimum of 51 in each component;
  • Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE): 169 overall with a minimum of 162 in each component;
  • Cambridge English First (FCE) : 169 overall with a minimum of 162 in each component;
  • Cambridge English Advanced (CAE): 169 overall with a minimum of 162 in each component;
  • Other recognised qualifications.

Curriculum

This course enables a biomedical scientist to understand the science of the causes, consequences, diagnosis and treatment of disease.

You will also:

  1. be equipped with the skills necessary to plan and perform a research project for publication and be aware of the need for good laboratory practice, health and safety and legal and ethical considerations.
  2. have the flexibility to study different areas of biology and tailor the course to your own interests. You'll also benefit from studying in the heart of Edinburgh and the surrounding countryside which is rich in biodiversity.
  3. learn through a combination of lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions and independent study. With the support and guidance of our tutors you will develop a programme of study that best suits you.
