Entry Requirements

  • For entry onto the first year of our 3 or 4 year undergraduate / Bachelor degree programmes, we ask for a school leaving qualification which is equivalent to the British school leaving qualification, (A-levels / International Baccalaureate). 
  • It is possible to transfer into the 2nd year of an undergraduate degree programme at Bangor University, if the studies undertaken at any other university (UK or overseas), correspond by level and content to the 1st year of a programme at Bangor University. In order to assess an application for transfer, students are required to provide an official certified transcript detailing the study undertaken to date with their application. 
  • IELTS score of 6.0 with no element below 5.5

Curriculum

In the first year of your History course degree you will choose from a selection of modules that are intended to provide a flavour of the School as a whole. You can also take one or two modules (up to 20 credits) from outside the School, which will give you a chance, for example, to improve your IT or language skills, or follow other complementary subjects of interest.

  • Apocalypse Then: The Crisis of the Fourteenth Century
  • The Birth of Modern Europe, 1470–1600
  • Introduction to Modern History, 1815–1914
  • Wales: Princes to Tudors (also available through the medium of Welsh)
  • Wales in the Modern World (also available through the medium of Welsh)
  • Introduction to History and Heritage
  • Introduction to Archaeological Principles and Techniques
  • Perceptions of the Past
     

Year 3

You select a special subject (e.g. The Norman Conquest, Henry II, Land and Power in England & Wales 1780- 1888, Home and Front during WW1, Britain in the 1960s) reflecting staff research interests. You will also complete a dissertation – a research project on a topic of particular interest to you. In addition you complete one or three modules from a list of options.
