About Mary Baldwin College

Mary Baldwin College is a women-centered university that was originally founded as the Augusta Female Seminary in 1842. The college is the oldest institution for higher education for women in the United States, with affiliates with the Presbyterian Church. The college is known for its emphasis for global leadership and citizenship, where students are educated to become tomorrow's changemakers empowered with the confidence to lead, the compassion to serve, and the courage to change the world.

Mary Baldwin College is located on 54 beautiful acres overlooking Staunton, Virgina's vibrant downtown area. The campus is a few minutes walk from the city, and in the town, students can easily occupy themselves with live music, movie theatres, art galleries, coffee houses, restaurants, and shopping places. There is also a world-famous Shakespeare theatre nearby.

Room Assignment Information

Housing assignments and roommate information will be emailed to you during the first week of August to give you time to prepare for move-in.

Room furnishings

Most freshmen and transfer students are assigned to Spencer or Woodson Residence Halls. The rooms in these halls are furnished with the following items:

  • Single bed with a standard size mattressĀ 
  • Desk and desk chair
  • Built-in closet
  • Built-in chest of drawers
  • Sink and mirror
  • Window covering (blinds)

Amenities in the residence halls

  • Common area lounges for study, small group meetings, and programming. Recent upgrades include the addition of new furniture and large flat-screen TVs in designated lounges
  • Laundry rooms with washers and dryers that are provided free of charge (no coins needed)
  • Common area kitchens equipped with microwaves, refrigerators, and stoves
  • Vending areas for drinks and snacks
  • Housekeeping of residence hall common areas including hall bathrooms
  • Vacuum cleaners for use by students
  • In-room network data, cable TV, and telephone connections
  • Wi-Fi access in all residence halls, houses and apartments
