  • 2 A Levels or NVQ Level 3. Mature students can be accepted without these qualifications if they have suitable work experience. An interview is essential before enrolling.

Curriculum

Level 4 (Year 1) modules invite the learner to explore some key fundamental factors relating to the world of work. The Business Environment Module examines the local, national and global environment that an organisation exists in, and the political, economic, social, and technological factors that impact on it. The Managing Financial Resources and Decisions module offers a grounding in the financing of business and how it is managed as well as developing the students competence in using the various tools available to managers in order to utilise financial information as part of the decision making process. Organisations and Behaviour looks at the operational management processes that take place in organisations, and how different management practices influence employees’ attitudes to work. Marketing Principles is module that explores the fundamentals of the marketing process giving the learner the opportunity to analyse marketing concepts that influence market planning. Aspects of Contract and Negligence in Business looks at a business organisation’s relationship to its customers from a legal perspective. Managing Business Activities aims to provide learners with the understanding and skills to manage their activities in the workplace to improve their effectiveness and efficiency. Human Resource Management offers the learner the opportunity to develop an understanding of the concepts and practices of human resource management in the UK. Personal and Professional Development module offers the opportunity for the learner to analyse and evaluate their personal and professional development in order to establish a personal development plan.

Level 5 (Year 2) modules build on the modules studied at level 4 focussing in greater depth on key management concepts and practice. Business Decision Making offers the learner the opportunity to develop techniques in data gathering, processing, analysis and storage in order to make effective decisions. Business Strategy aims to give the learner the knowledge and understanding the processes strategic planning in order to maximise success. In order to achieve their HND, learners are required to undertake a Research Project for which support is provided through a module that aims to develop their research skills. The Working with and Leading People aims to develop the skills and knowledge needed for working with and leading others, through understanding the importance of recruiting the right people for the job. Operations Management in Business explores the role and importance of operations management in the efficient and effective production of goods and service. The Business Ethics module aims to introduce the learner to the concept of ethical business practice and its importance when formulating a business organisation’s objectives and responsibilities. Employability Skills is a module that has the objective of developing the learner’s employability skills required for effective employment. The aim of The Small Business Enterprise module is to give learners the opportunity to focus on the processes involved, through change management, of reviewing and improving the performance of a small business enterprise.
