About Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University)

MGIMO is Russia's most prestigious educational institution for young people with international interests. For international students, MGIMO is that and more: a modern, welcoming, and intellectually stimulating place to study in Russia’s greatest city.

MGIMO’s diverse student body of 6,000 is drawn from the top ranks of Russian students and from partner universities around the world. MGIMO offers a broad range of courses at undergraduate and graduate levels — from international affairs, political science, economics, and international law, to journalism, business management, and energy policy. International undergraduates can apply for a fully English-taught B.A. program or choose from challenging and exciting courses in Russian. Students seeking a Master degree can apply for one of MGIMO’s groundbreaking double-degree programs, offered in partnership with international institutions, or seek a place in one of more than thirty MA programs taught in Russian.

For all its history, MGIMO is continuing to remake itself. In the last five years, the university has formed numerous new partnerships with leading institutions around the world. MGIMO is integrating fully into the Bologna accords, spelling out strict standards for European higher learning institutions. The University is also committed to fostering an ever-evolving student body, curriculum, and campus life that continues to reflect its reputation as Russia’s most prestigious and most advanced place for understanding international affairs.

Campus information

MGIMO is located in a picturesque green area of southern Moscow, home to several higher education institutions, and considered upmarket and safe. The nearby commercial facilities and recreational spaces ensure a comfortable daily life for international students. They can buy everything they need in grocery stores, markets, and two shopping malls, and dine in a diverse range of restaurants and cafeterias.

Easily accessible recreational pursuits include walking and jogging in nearby gardens, cinemas, and a bowling alley, with the center of Moscow only 20 minutes away by metro, for access to the delights of one of the world’s largest, most vibrant, and diverse cities.

The University is between two Red Line metro stations - "Yugo-Zapadnaya (South West)" and "Prospect Vernadskogo". From either metro station run mini buses which will convey students directly to MGIMO, with bus and trolley bus services also available.

Accommodation

Four well-equipped, comfortable, and modern dormitories provide international students with accommodation for study periods at MGIMO. Students usually share a double room in the 14-floor dormitory on campus, with a shared kitchen on every floor, washing machines, and nearby dry cleaners. The University has a network of canteens and cafes, providing quality service to thousands of visitors, catering to a variety of tastes - from the classic student canteens to sushi bars and pizzerias. Students wishing to live off campus will find abundant affordable, for Moscow, accommodation to rent near the campus.
