About this course

This programme is for students who wish to specialise in a particular area of their interest. There are more than 40 subjects offered in this programme, and most of them are available as research and taught versions. In a research masters, students can contribute to existing knowledge in the field by managing a research project alongside some of the country's leading scholars. In a taught masters, students will focus on deepening their knowledge in small classes and completing a smaller research project such as a dissertation.

  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) or Postgraduate Diploma in Arts (Taught 120 points)
  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) or Postgraduate Diploma in Arts (Research 120 points), with approved thesis topic and supervisor
  • Bachelor of Arts (Taught 240 points)
  • Bachelor of Arts (Research 240 points)

Another tertiary institution

Completed one of the following with a GPE of 5.0 from a recognised university (or similar institution):

  • Postgraduate qualification in a similar discipline (Taught or Research 120 points)
  • An undergraduate degree in a similar discipline(Taught or Research 240 points)

Curriculum

A 120- or 240-point programme with research and taught options, depending on your chosen subject. The structure of your programme depends on the subject that you are studying.

Research (120-point)

  • Enter from a postgraduate degree
  • Usually consists of a 120-point thesis or research portfolio
  • Some subjects offer a combination of a 90-point thesis and 30 points from taught courses
  • You may be able to include up to 30 points from other subjects
  • One year full-time or up to two consecutive years part-time

Research (240-point)

  • Enter from an undergraduate degree
  • A combination of advanced taught courses and a thesis or research portfolio
  • You may be able to include up to 60 points from other subjects
  • Two consecutive years full-time or up to four consecutive years part-time

Taught (120-point)

  • Enter from a postgraduate degree
  • Advanced taught courses
  • A small research project such as a dissertation, usually worth 45 points
  • You may be able to include up to 30 points from other subjects
  • One year full-time or up to two consecutive years part-time
  • Only available in selected subjects

Taught (240-point)

  • Enter from an undergraduate degree
  • Advanced taught courses
  • A small research project such as a dissertation, usually worth 45 points
  • Two consecutive years full-time or up to four consecutive years part-time
  • Available in most subjects
