About Unitec Institute of Technology

Unitec Institute of Technology is a Government funded and approved tertiary institution that provides Certificates, Diplomas, Bachelors, Graduate Diplomas, Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctorate qualifications. Unitec programmes are career focused, industry recognised and full of hands-on experience. Accommodation

Unitec can provide options on or off campus. We have two apartment complexes which contain a variety of living options. These range from studios right though to five bedroom apartments. Students can also choose to stay with a homestay family off campus. This provides an opportunity for students to practice their English skills and experience Kiwi life. 

Campus

Unitec boasts three campuses which are situated around Auckland. The largest of these is in Mt Albert. This campus is only a 10 minute drive away from downtown Auckland and is set in 55 hectares of park-like grounds. Other campuses include Waitakere, located in the suburb of Henderson, North Shore which is right by Takapuna beach and Northern, which is located in Albany. There are also numerous support services and facilities available for students including:

  • International Office – provides visa support, Student Advisors to help with study related questions and an Insurance Officer to assist with insurance issues.
  • Career Centre – has experience and qualified Career Consultants available for workshops and one-on-one sessions
  • Te Puna Ako Learning Centre – can provide course specific support or help students with general study skills
  • Four libraries, computer labs and free wireless access on campus
  • Health Centre and pharmacy, free counselling, chaplaincy and prayer rooms
  • Sports Centre and National Squash Centre

Ed Collective plays an active role in organising a wide a variety of events and trips. This helps to further enhance a student’s experience at Unitec. Such events include music festivals and parties, plays and comedy shows, film nights, sports and gaming events, cultural events, outdoor adventure trips etc.

Unitec's campuses at Mt Albert, Henderson and Albany are easy to reach from most parts of Auckland. You can drive, ride a bike or take public transport. Getting to Unitec:

  • Public transport
    • To plan your trip to Unitec by bus, train or ferry, use the Auckland Transport website. 
    • Auckland Transport also provide lots of information about the Hop Card, a new travel card that you can use on trains, buses and ferries around the city.
  • Cycling
    • All three campuses have bike racks and showers that you can use. Mt Albert campus is right next to the Northwestern cycleway, which links central and west Auckland. This cycleway is an easy way to get to campus, whether you are cycling from the city or from Waitakere. You can shower and leave your bike in the bike sheds behind Building 14 at the northern end of campus.
  • Carpooling
    • Finding people to carpool with is a great way to guarantee yourself a good parking space. Staff and students who display at least two carpool permits can park in the priority spaces at any campus. To find people to carpool with visit Unitec's Let's Carpool website. You can apply for your permit online and pick it up from your nearest Student Central.
