A total of 151,979 international students enrolled last year, where approximately 80% of them studying in Higher Education Institutes. This is higher compared to 2014, with a 12% increase in the enrolment of international students at Malaysia’s Higher Education Institutes in 2015.

“The country is on track to achieve the target of attracting 200,000 international students by 2020 in line with Malaysia’s aim of becoming a preferred global education destination,” he said.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh believes that the quality of education, the value for money, the quality of life, the cultural comfort, and the language used are some of the reasons that contributed to this cause.

He also attributed the establishment of Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) in 2012 had simplified the procedures and provided international students another option to apply the student pass and the i-kad online.

EMGS, too, had collaborated with the Malaysian Immigration Department to filter and monitor the process of Visa Approval Letters. The collaborations helped weed out cases of international student pass abuse while ensuring the well-being of the genuine international student community.
