The Foundation in Interior Architecture Design is a prerequisite for the BA (Hons) Interior Architecture Design programme. In this programme, students will equip themselves with the building blocks for skills and knowledge development which will prepare them for their advanced learning in interior architecture and design at levels 4, 5 and 6. Throughout your study period, you will develop the necessary skills required for academic development.

Curriculum

Semester 1

During this introductory semester, students will be taught several basic and fundamental courses which allow them to understand the basis of interior design and its content. They will learn skills and methods ranging from drawings, visual languages, computer skills, all the way to design principles and color studies. Students will also learn various drawing skills; including still-live, one point and two point perspectives. By the end of this semester, student would be able to understand the significance of interior design, the skills required to mobilise ideas and the vital principle elements that forms a holistic design scheme.

Semester 2

Semester 2 will introduce students to various component systems used in the interior design profession. They will learn fundamentals of building orientation, visual and communication languages, drawings, renderings in various mediums and basic digital skills. Students will also be acquainted with methods on how to conduct a design research and analysis and develop conceptual design solution enabling them to present professionally in response to a set of brief set earlier on in the semester. At this stage as well, students will begin an exciting exploration of ideas and will be exposed to industry type project, working from inception phase all the way to producing and presenting the entire scheme of design at the end of the semester.

Semester 3

This final semester of the foundation programme will equip and expose students to basic interior design standards and anthropometry while working concurrently with a design studio. Students will be able to recognize different ranges of interior types, from residential to commercial settings. At this stage, student will also be introduced to research methodology. They will be taught various ways and methods to analyse contemporary topics in interior design practice which gives them a chance to think creatively and critically in the form of contextual. They will work on numerous problem statements in the current society in order for them to develop their mindset independently.
