About Universiti Utara Malaysia

Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) was established to primarily develop and promote management education in the country. Its academic programmes are especially designed towards providing a wide range of academic knowledge and intellectual skills in various fields like management, accounting, economics, information technology, public administration, human resource management, entrepreneurship, finance and banking, law, marketing, management of technology, communication, social work, multimedia, education, decision science, international affairs, business management, tourism, muamalat administration, development management, logistics and transportation, hospitality, risk and insurance management, media technology, agribusiness management science, business mathematics, industrial statistics and counseling.

Campus information

Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) is located in Sintok, the state of Kedah, Northern Malaysia. The State of Kedah Darul Aman is a land of unique natural beauty with the greenery of lush tropical forests, rolling hills, a verdant patchwork of paddy fields, and clear blue skies. Located in the northwest of Peninsular Malaysia, and is roughly about 400 kilometres away from Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur. Kedah also shares a common border with Thailand.

Getting to the university is not a problem as there are a few ways to do so.

BY RAIL:

The Malaysian Railway or Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) services major towns in Kedah and Perlis. There are daily train services from Kuala Lumpur to Alor Setar and Arau. From Alor Setar or Arau railway station, you can take a cab to UUM campus.

BY AIR:

Sultan Abdul Halim Airport is located approximately 11 kilometres north of Alor Setar and 40 kilometres south of UUM campus in Sintok. Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia fly daily between Alor Setar and Kuala Lumpur. From the airport, you can take a cab or bus to UUM campus.

BY ROAD:

  • The North-South Expressway (PLUS) has made it easy for any traveler to drive to UUM campus. This highway is accessible from major towns and cities in the Peninsula. It is a 7-8 hour drive from Kuala Lumpur.
  • From Alor Setar/Jitra or from the nearest town Changlun, you can even take a cab or the local bus, HBR Liner / Kenderaan Bas Mara that goes straight into the UUM campus in Sintok.
  • From major towns, such as Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru, air-conditioned express buses are also available.

Kedah has many interesting places for visitors to enjoy besides experiencing and beholding the tranquillity and serenity of paddy fields stretching far into the horizon. The most famous of these attractions is the legendary island of Langkawi, which has been rated as one of the most beautiful islands in the world. It is host to international events such as the Le Tour de Langkawi and Langkawi International Maritime Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA).
