About Colchester Institute
Colchester Institute is a provider of high quality vocational education throughout north Essex. Originally starting as the Colchester School of Art in 1885, we have grown to five varied faculties and operate across campuses in Colchester, Braintree and Clacton.
We provide a large number of different courses ranging from full, part-time, apprenticeships and degrees, which can enable you to enter employment straight away or progress onto university.
Vocational learning is an integral part of all of our courses, where the knowledge gained from practical activities with cutting edge, industry relevant equipment, work placements and theory provides you with a strong knowledge in your chosen field, along with a competitive edge against others when entering employment.
Colchester Insitute is regionally recognised for our art, catering and performing arts facilities where we are highly renowned within these areas for producing strong and well-equipped alumni students, where 89% of our degree students are in work or further study after six months of graduating.

Accommodation
The Maltings
New student accommodation offering excellent facilities and comfort. Rooms are allocated alongside Essex University students where you will have the chance to exchange experiences and mix with the students from all other courses.The village is situated approximately 3 miles from the Colchester Institute. An annual can be purchased via the College Shop.
Rooms are furnished with ¾ beds with storage underneath (however the 1 bed flat and double studios offer double beds), desk and a desk chair, plenty of draw space and a wardrobe with additional storage space on top. All rooms have a modern en-suite. Bike storage is available and there is parking on-site.
The cluster kitchens include a modern fitted kitchen complete with a combi-oven, microwave, hob and fridge-freezer. The studio rooms and 1 bed flat have their own personal kitchen including a micro-oven, fridge with freezer compartment and a 2 ring hob.
Forest Road Student Residence
Forest Road House complex provides purpose built Student Accommodation for students. Located to the East of Colchester town centre it is approximately 1mile from the Essex University campus and about 3 miles from the Colchester Institute.Forest Road House was built by the University of Essex but now it is a privately managed residence.
The accommodation comprises of 124 rooms within 2 blocks of 3 storey flats. 2 Single rooms and 2 Double rooms within each block have an en-suite facility. The complex provides a friendly and secure environment to live.The rent will be charged at £300.00-£480.00 per calendar month depending on room type, payable one term in advance on 11 months contract. The frequent communal area cleaning and Wi-Fi is included in the price. There is no deposit but an administration fee of £120.00 is payable at the start of the tenancy.

- Colchester Campus
The Colchester Campus is the largest of the Colchester Institute sites and is just a short walk from the town centre. There are few colleges that offer students fine dining, the chance to have their hair done and nails pampered, browse the on-site art gallery and attend some fantastic music concerts, all on one campus – students at the Colchester Campus can enjoy all of this and more.
- The College at Braintree
The College at Braintree, Church Lane, is part of Colchester Institute. Set in attractive grounds, it's just a short walk away from Braintree town centre and bus station. The campus offers a friendly learning environment with a range of specialist facilities, for courses from Photography to Business and Administration and Fashion & Textiles to Motorcycle Maintenance.
- The College at Clacton
The College at Clacton, Church Road Campus is the third largest campus operated by Colchester Institute. The campus first opened in 1976 as a result of the merger of North East Essex Technical College with St Osyth Training College which resulted in the formation of Colchester Institute.
