Entry Requirements
- GCSE: For all applicants, Grade C or above, or Grade 4 under newly reformed GCSE grading, in English Language or equivalent. Please note the University does not accept Level two Key Skills, Functional Skills or Certificates in Adult Numeracy and Literacy as suitable alternatives to GCSEs.
- A-level subjects: No specific subjects required. Points from A-Level General Studies and AS-Level subjects (not taken onto full A-Level) can be included towards overall tariff. You must have a minimum of two A-Levels.
- EDEXCEL (BTEC) Diploma: No specific subjects required.
- Access: Achievement of the Access to HE Diploma; to include 15 level 3 credits at merit.
- Baccalaureate IB: No specific subjects required.
Curriculum
Year one
The first year introduces you to a range of concepts and applications needed to acquire a broad base of skills and understanding of Interior Design specialisms. You will be encouraged to explore the way in which ideas may be developed through a range of different media, research and processes.
Access to visiting speakers, along with the Professional Practice and Work Experience in Interior Design module, will enable you to begin to locate the context of your own practice in relation to developing knowledge of the possibilities for your future career trajectory.
You will study the following compulsory modules:
- Introduction to Interior Design
- Exploring Practice in Interior Design
- Professional Practice and Work Experience in Interior Design
- Critical Perspectives
Year two
You will focus on developing the relationship between form, content and the language of materials. You will look at the implications, techniques, manufacturing processes and design impacts between the bespoke and mass produced design markets. Further individual and team activity will enable you to refine your skills base, developing your project management skills through set projects and live briefs.
The Professional Practice and Work Experience module provides a series of structured lectures and events designed to help you explore your potential for employment. All students exhibit their work within UWE and at external locations. You will also be encouraged to undertake work placements.
You will study the following compulsory modules:
- Developing Practice in Interior Design
- Professional Practice and Work Experience in Interior Design 2
- Creative Analysis
Plus one of the following optional modules:
- International Exchange
- Developing Practice in Interior Design 2
Final year
Your final year of study will consist of a self-directed programme of study to reflect your particular strengths, abilities and ambitions. It will be developed through a combination of critical discussion, contextual awareness, visual research and creative practice. You will investigate the impacts of space and place, enabling you to apply your own design methodologies and ethos to prepare you for industry. The year will culminate in the presentation of a substantial body of work.
