About this course

The Architectural Engineering Technology program gives students a strong foundation in architectural design and construction-related concepts. By learning 2-dimensional computer-aided drafting (CAD), and 3-dimensional building information modeling (BIM), graduates will be able to visually communicate ideas and virtually construct a building through the use of a variety of software.

Students will take architectural courses in drafting, modeling, rendering, construction methods and materials and construction document preparation. Engineering technology courses in statics, strength of materials, surveying, and project management will be taken to solidify and diversify their technical knowledge. General course work in communications, writing, math, and speech will enable students to become productive employees, problem solvers, in today’s challenging architectural environment.

Careers for graduates range from entry-level drafters and technicians to project detailers and CAD operators. Their career paths may lead them to jobs in the residential or commercial construction industry, civil engineering companies, city and/or a state engineering design departments, consulting firms, or the numerous corporations that manufacture architectural materials.

Graduates from this program may choose to continue with their education at a four-year institution and seek license as a Registered Architect or Professional Engineer.
