About Wheelock College

Since 1888, Wheelock College has been providing a transformational education to students passionate about making the world a better place—especially for children and families.

While most of our students elect to work in the helping professions of education, social work, child life, and juvenile justice and youth advocacy, many pursue, and make exceptional contributions to, a wide variety of professions.

We offer a unique blend of:

  • A mission-driven focus;
  • Close collaboration with faculty in small classes;
  • An array of undergraduate arts and sciences programs coupled with professional programs that enable most students to graduate with double majors;
  • Graduate offerings that support professionals throughout their careers; and
  • Real-world work experiences each semester at Wheelock that help students integrate theory with real-world practice, making them highly sought-after graduates.

Together, these catalysts for change help our students develop the knowledge, confidence, perspective and drive to pursue personal and professional lives of substance, meaning, and satisfaction anywhere in the world they choose to live and work.

As a highly respected advocate for social policy, Wheelock also helps to shape and strengthen the social systems that positively impact children and families around the globe.

Campus information

The campus provides six residence halls for students. Its Campus Center features a multi-station dining hall, campus store, cafe, and multi-media room. Sports facilities include gym, pool, dance studio, indoor track, cardio and weight rooms, basketball courts, and racquetball courts.

Wheelock College is located in the Fenway, a vibrant area of Boston that is home to a wide variety of educational, cultural, and healthcare institutions. Our campus is just minutes from historic Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, and the beautiful Emerald Necklace, a series of contiguous parks designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted.

About a ten-minute walk from our main campus is our Brookline campus, featuring a stately, turn-of-the-century mansion that houses graduate classrooms, offices, and space for special events.

Accommodation

Wheelock's six residence halls—Longwood House, Peabody Hall, Pilgrim House, the Campus Center Student Residence building, Riverway House, and Colchester House—offer unique living environments. They vary in size, types of rooms, designations as co-educational or single-sex halls, and traditions. Each living environment is headed by professional Resident Directors and student Resident Assistants who represent and enforce the general philosophies and policies of the Office of Student Life. The unique characteristics of the halls are ensured through residence self-government, which allows house members to determine rules and regulations for their own community.

Rooms are either singles, doubles, triples, or quads, and each room in the residence halls is equipped with the following: a twin bed, a desk with a chair, dresser, blinds on the windows, an overhead light, smoke detectors, closet space (limited), and hook ups for cable TV. Each residence hall has some wireless connectivity—Riverway and the Campus Center Student Residence are entirely wireless, while the remaining residences have wireless connectivity in the common areas but require wired connection to the college network in the rooms. Each residence hall is smoke-free and has vending machines, television lounges with microwave ovens, and computer rooms. Laundry facilities are located in Peabody Hall, Riverway House, Pilgrim House (for residents of Pilgrim and Longwood), Campus Center Student Residence, and Colchester.
