About Valdosta State University

Valdosta State University offers the extensive academic, cultural and social opportunities of a major university, and the small classes and close personal attention found at smaller institutions. Students are attracted to the close-knit community where learning occurs in a supportive environment. Faculty and staff members challenge each student’s potential. The Valdosta State philosophy embraces the concept that the measurement of a student’s success in college goes beyond the classroom and offers a wide array of opportunities to become involved including more than 200 active student organizations, Greek fraternities and sororities, faith-based ministry groups, a variety of intramural teams, and many service and academic clubs.

SU is a home away from home, where lifelong connections are made, and you will never feel invisible. Here you will write it, sing it, broadcast it, run with it, cheer for it, celebrate it, teach it, nurture and own it. There are over 100 majors to explore, championship athletics, highly regarded graduate programs and we are just far enough away from home.

At VSU we are hands on from day one. Research, internships, study abroad, small class sizes, winning plays, faculty access, lending a hand, and even playing in the sand come naturally. VSU makes the university experience relevant and real for students—opening the door to opportunities in the workplace and in life.

Campus information

Through its five colleges (the College of the Arts, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration, the James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education, and the College of Nursing), the Division of Social Work, and the Library and Information Science program, VSU offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, and has a legacy as a major provider of education services for the region.

VSU is located on a 168-acre (0.68 km2) campus at the heart of the city of Valdosta.

A mixture of housing types has been incorporated to give students a choice in their housing life style. Traditional halls (Brown, Langdale, Lowndes, Patterson, and Reade) are typically one bedroom shared by two students and have community bathrooms. Whereas, suite style halls (Georgia and Hopper) have two to four students sharing a bathroom within their unit. Having most of the same characteristics of a suite, Converse is considered a super suite because of the kitchenette within each unit.
