About University of Saint Mary

The University of Saint Mary (USM) was founded in 1859, it is a private liberal arts university based in Leavenworth, Kansas, United States. The university was originally a school for women, it is now coeducational. According to the Princeton Review, it was named as "Best Value College".

The University of Saint Mary offers over 28 Bachelor’s degree courses and six Master’s degree courses. The university also provides accelerated degrees, evening classes and online classes.

Campus information

The Leavenworth Campus is the main campus of the university, it is the base for the undergraduate courses. Facilities include two residential halls, library, academic and administrative offices, indoor athletic facilities, as well as outdoor playing fields. The Overland Park Campus houses the evening Master's degree classes and accelerated degree-completion courses. 

The university is only 30 minutes away from the Kansas City, the city offers a variety of restaurants, shops, entertainment, and cultural attractions. Kansas City International Airport is 35 minutes away.

Residency Requirement

The University of Saint Mary requires students to live within University housing until they are 19 years of age and a junior (60 credit hours) -OR- 21 years of age at the start of his/her first semester at USM.

Exceptions to this policy include students who are:

  • Married
  • Reside within the primary residence of a parent or legal guardian; or
  • Parents of dependent children.
