About University of Montevallo

The overriding mission of the University of Montevallo, unique in higher education in Alabama, is to provide to students from throughout the state an affordable, geographically accessible, “small college” public higher educational experience of high quality, with a strong emphasis on undergraduate liberal studies and with professional programs supported by a broad base of arts and sciences, designed for their intellectual and personal growth in the pursuit of meaningful employment and responsible, informed citizenship.

Located approximately 35 miles south of Birmingham, the City of Montevallo surrounds the University and embraces University of Montevallo, its students and its activities on all levels, from theatrical premieres to art openings to basketball games to guest speakers. 


University of Montevallo provides eight different residence halls for students to interact and interweave, and each residence hall offers a unique range of amenities, from private baths to kitchen amenities to apartment-style living. And each residence hall is conveniently located a short distance from classrooms, recreational facilities, food services, administrative offices and the library. In other words, you’ll be doing a lot more than just sleeping.
