CPCS also offers an M.S. in Human Services. At this time, the MSHS program boasts one of the highest, if not the highest, graduation rates among UMass Boston graduate programs.
MSHS students choose between a concentration in management or planning. The majority of students choose the management track. the Faculty council this semester approved a new concentration in human services evaluation, a concentration that will attract a cadre of new students. It is anticipated that this new track will begin to admit students in Fall 2011. The report of the 2009 AQUAD reviewers found a "well-thought-out curriculum, highly motivated and engaged students, enthusiastic alumni, and a rate of timely graduation that represents a significant improvement over what it was when the program was last evaluated in 1999." The report recognized the program's success in transforming the participants into a "learning community" and creating a "culture of engagement." The report also stated that the "curriculum is comprehensive, current and well-designed, providing an array of skills that would enable students to carry out their work with greater sensitivity and effectiveness and assume leadership positions in contemporary human service agencies."
