About this course

Succeed in the global world of modern finance. In the Master of Finance (MFin) program, graduates will gain the information and skills to advance in the finance world. The Smith Master of Finance program was developed for full-time students and can be completed in 9 to 16 months. International students who require student (F-1) visas should plan on completing the program in no more than 16 months.

Graduates will learn from some of the best minds in finance today. The Master of Finance is taught by our world-class Smith faculty. Smith finance faculty are actively involved as advisers to large financial institutions, multinational corporations and government agencies. Their research has appeared in prestigious financial journals and influential publications such as The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. 

This master program emphasizes quantitative methods to provide a deep understanding of the theoretical foundations of finance. With the changes in financial market structure and greater demands placed on regulatory agencies, there is significant need in organizations for people with deeper financial knowledge. The Smith School Master of Finance will equip graduates with the qualifications needed to position them in their future advancement. 

Core courses provide excellent fundamentals and are supported by a large number of electives, allowing students to become either specialists or well-qualified generalists. 

In addition to rigorous academics, the Smith School and the Finance Department together offer a suite of services that set graduates on track to pursue their career goals. From career workshops, to one-on-one finance department advising, to experiential learning projects, and opportunities to get involved in the Center for Financial Policy, students will have a wide variety of venues to put themselves in front of potential employers.

Classes are conveniently held at College Park and Washington, D.C., campuses.
