About University of California, San Diego (UCSD)

University of California, San Diego (also known as UC San Diego or UCSD) was established in 1960. It is one of America's Public Ivy universities, which recognizes top public research universities in the United States.

UCSD is the seventh oldest of the ten University of California campuses, and offers over 200 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 23,805, its setting is urban, and the campus size is 1,976 acres. It utilizes a quarter-based academic calendar. University of California--San Diego's ranking in the 2015 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, 37.

UCSD includes six undergraduate colleges and five graduate and professional schools. Its School of Medicine and Jacobs School of Engineering are highly ranked. UCSD is designated as a university with very high research activity by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

UCSD is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through excellence in education and research at the undergraduate, graduate, professional school and postdoctoral levels. The campus is committed to community engagement, public service and industry partnerships in order to advance the health and well-being of the region, state, nation and the world.

UCSD has the 5,000 animal Birch Aquarium and public museum, the San Diego Supercomputer Center, several large shake facilities including the world record holding Large High Performance Outdoor Shake Table, multiple open ocean research vessels, and a sea port.

The library provides access to more than 7 million items, including digital and print volumes, journals, and multimedia materials to meet the knowledge demands of scholars, students, and members of the public. The main student hub is the Price Center located in the center of campus, just south of Geisel Library. The Price Center offers a variety of services, places, and spaces, including restaurants, the central bookstore, movie theater, and various student organizations.

The six undergraduate residential colleges have separate housing facilities for their students. First-year students are usually housed in the residence halls while upperclassmen live in the college apartments. The university currently offers four years guaranteed housing to its incoming freshmen, and two years to incoming transfer students.

UCSD is situated at La Jolla, California, United States which near the coast of the Pacific Ocean. The university is 19 kilometers north of Mexico; 200 kilometers south of Los Angeles (or 2 hours by train or automobile); and 7 hours east of Hawaii (by air).

We are provide housing home We believe that living on campus greatly enhances the college experience. We offer a standard set of services for all residents so that both new and returning residents get the most out of our program. This fall, incoming freshman students will be offered our two-year housing guarantee.
