Entry Requirements

Admission into the M.S. program is selective. An application package is considered in its entirety (there are no minimal cutoffs), but typical admission requirements include:

  • GRE (Graduate Record Examination): quantitative plus verbal (Q+V) of 1100or better on the General Test (300 or better on the new GRE).  (No subject tests are required.)

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): 600 or better (paper exam); 250 or better (computer exam); 100 or better (internet exam) OR IELTS: Overall Band Score of 7 or better.
The TOEFL/IELTS exam is waived for students whose native (first) language is English.

  • GPA (grade point average): 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale); preferably higher in computer science courses. There is no need for international students to translate their grades to the 4.0 scale.
  • a clear statement of study plan, including specific graduate study objectives, and

  • a strong academic background in computer science and mathematics, including certainprerequisites.

Curriculum

With a specialization, students take 15 hours in the area of specialization and 21 hours of other computer science courses, for a total of 36 hours. We presently offer M.S. specializations in four areas:

  • Bioinformatics
  • Computer Graphics
  • Parallel and Distributed Computing
