About San Francisco State University

San Francisco State University (also known as SF State or SFSU) is a public university located in San Francisco, California. It was founded in 1899 as San Francisco State Normal School. The university is part of the 23-campus California State University system.

The university has several academic colleges which are Liberal & Creative Arts, Business, Education, Health and Human Services, and Science and Engineering. The university offers 118 different Bachelor's degrees, 94 Master's degrees, 5 Doctoral degrees including two Doctor of Education, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, a Ph.D in Education and Doctor of Physical Therapy Science, along with 26 teaching credentials among six academic colleges.

The university is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities, a subgroup of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The College of Business is accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

The university is currently ranked as the 50th best master's-granting university in the Western United States by U.S. News & World Report. U.S. News & World Report also ranks San Francisco State University 1st in reputation among its "Western University peers" in 2000.

Campus information

Library in SF provides variety of services including borrowing information, study spaces, computers and printing, copiers, and study materials such as electronics resources, film and video collection, government publications, and so on.

The sport facilities available for use are located inside the Gymnasium, Cox Stadium, Tennis Courts, Maloney Field, and Softball Field. Swimming pool, locker room, gym, basketball courts, volleyball courts, and indoor soccer court are also available in the recreational department.

The SF State Housing Community provides a home to more than 2,500 San Francisco State University students. As a resident of one of three traditional residence halls (Mary Ward and Mary Park halls, the Science and Technology Theme Community building), or four apartment complexes (the Towers and the Village at Centennial Square, University Park South and University Park North).

The university is situated at SF Statewhich is a quiet, residential neighborhood in the southwest corner of San Francisco, just minutes away from downtown and the Pacific Ocean.

The SF State Housing Community provides a home to more than 2,500 San Francisco State University students. As a resident of one of two traditional residence halls (Mary Ward and Mary Park halls), or four apartment complexes (the Towers and the Village at Centennial Square, University Park South and University Park North), you'll live just footsteps away from your classes and the many amenities our campus offers.

To live on campus you must be a full-time student and you must apply separately from the from University admission. Housing is limited and not guaranteed so we recommend you apply as early as possible - the Housing application becomes available at the same time as the University application.
