About this course

Candidates will be able to:

  • Obtain PA Department of Education PreK-12 School Principal certification
  • Use knowledge and skills to think and plan strategically creating a PreK-12 organizational vision around personalized student success
  • Develop an understanding of PreK-12 standards-based systems theory and design and the ability to transfer that knowledge to the leader’s job as an architect of standards based reform in the school setting
  • Employ the ability to access and use appropriate data to inform decision-making at all levels of the PreK-12 system
  • Foster and create school cultures of teaching and learning with an emphasis on learning
  • Manage resources and budgeting that will provide effective results that encourage school success
  • Learn to positively collaborate, communicate, engage, and empower others inside and outside of the school organization to pursue excellence in learning
  • Know how to operate in a fair and equitable manner with personal and professional integrity as a school leader
  • Become an advocate for children and public education in the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context
  • Universally support professional growth of self and others through practice and inquiry
  • Successfully participate in a one-year field internship that will meet PA required guidelines for PreK-12 School Principal certification
  • Abide by the integrity, ethical behavior, and professional conduct as stated in Pennsylvania’s Code of Professional Practice and Conduct for Educators; and local, state, and federal laws and regulations
