About Pacific University

Pacific University is a diverse learning community offering a unique combination of undergraduate,graduate and professional programs in the liberal arts and sciences, education, business,optometry, and the health professions. 

The school was founded in Forest Grove in 1849 by Congregationalist pioneers. Originally the Tualatin Academy, it became Pacific University in 1854 and conferred its first baccalaureate degree in 1863.

Today, Pacific University serves more than 3,500 students on its campuses in Forest Grove,Hillsboro, Eugene and Woodburn. Students come to Pacific from throughout the West and around the world to enjoy close, nurturing relationships with professors and a hands-on learning environment focused on real-world experience, civic engagement and global perspective.

Students work side-by-side with faculty in research, in teaching young children, and in serving patients in a variety of health and eye clinics throughout the Portland Metro Area. They participate in international study and service through a robust study abroad program. They find internships in local business, and they build relationships that stay with them throughout their lives.

Pacific University provides an attractive student Life to their student. Pacific’s Residence Halls are the housing that offered to the student, the halls are at the heart of students' academic and social lives. You will study, meet friends, and grow as a person, all while being supported by professional and paraprofessional live-in staff members. And being able to jump out of bed two minutes before class starts and still make it in time is just a bonus.

Besides, Pacific students often cite the opportunities to get involved in clubs and organizations to be among the most valuable experiences of their college careers. Activities range from intramural sports, forensics, student government, and fraternities or sororities, to outdoor adventures offered through the Outback program and community service opportunities with the Circle K or Amnesty International clubs. Pacific also competes in NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics.

In addition, there is a special services are available to students including: career counseling, advocacy and health wellness education, tutoring, and multi-cultural services.

Pacific University is located about 25 miles west of Portland, the college occupies 55 acres in downtown Forest Grove, Ore.


  • Pacific University requires all students under 20 years old prior to the beginning of the fall term to live and board on-campus unless the student has fulfilled the university's two-year residency requirement.
  • All students who sign a Housing Contract and move into housing are required to live and board on campus for the duration of the contract terms (full academic year).
  • Students under 18 years old prior to moving into housing are required to sign an additional contract.
