Campus information

Every student at Montserrat College of Art is viewed as a whole artist, someone with tremendous talent and potential. We pride ourselves on being a small art college where you are valued as both individuals and members of a supportive and inclusive community. The relationships you will establish here and the life skills you will cultivate will be with you for a lifetime.

Here, you will find many programs throughout the year that enable you to demonstrate your individual talents and take risks as you learn and create art. Our faculty members are professional teachers and artists who will become trusted mentors and lifelong friends.

At Montserrat, art is always a part of daily life. In addition to Montserrat’s student-run Bear Gallery, where students can gain gallery experience and show their work, we also provide opportunities to visit galleries in Boston and New York City.

Montserrat is located in Beverly, Massachusetts, a historic, seaside city with miles of beautiful coastline about 20 miles north of Boston. Rich in history with a working waterfront and diverse neighborhoods, Beverly boasts multiple public beaches, parks, playgrounds, ponds, riverfront walkways, woods and trails. The city is home to several cultural institutions and now has an arts district that includes Montserrat College of Art, many local galleries and two theaters, one of which is houses a nationally recognized resident magic company and a movie theater, and the other, the North Shore Music Theatre, offering first-run musicals and performances and one of the largest non-profit professional theaters in New England.

The North Shore serves as home to America’s oldest, working artist colony, ensuring that Montserrat’s housing is nestled in a community rich with history and artistic inspiration. Residence houses have two or more bedrooms and offer the independence of apartment-style living, with most accommodating a minimum of four students. Each house has a private bath, kitchen and living room. Trained residential staff are on hand to assist students with any problems, and all college housing is conveniently located within walking distance of Montserrat’s academic and studio facilities.

Campus Life professional staff live on campus and supervise the Resident Assistants (RAs) who live in the residence halls. Our staff continually work to maintain a safe and harmonious community.
