About Hood College

Hood College prepares students to excel in meeting the personal, professional and global challenges of the future. Hood is committed to the integration of the liberal arts, the professions and technology, to the exploration of values, a sense of community and to the preparation of students for lives of responsibility, leadership and service.

Hood boasts easy access to the highest concentration of doctoral scientists, engineers, mathematical and biological scientists, health care providers and technical professionals in the United States. Maryland is an R&D powerhouse, ranking second nationally in annual federal government funding.

Campus information

Hood students make the most of life outside the classroom. There are literally hundreds of ways to get involved—playing a sport or cheering for your favorite team, joining one of the dozens of student clubs, attending on-campus events, volunteering in the local community, embarking on daytrips around Maryland or going out on far-flung excursions, to name just a few. Plus, the things you'll find to occupy your time when you're not in class help you discover who you are and what you care about in new, enlightening ways.

Located in historic Frederick, Md. (the third-largest city in the state), Hood is an hour from Washington, D.C., an hour from Baltimore and 30 minutes from the I-270 technology corridor.

In residence halls, the Whitaker Campus Center, Coblentz dining room and other buildings all over campus, you’ll make friends, cook family-style dinners, form study groups and find numerous other ways to connect with fellow students. You’ll learn not only what it means to be part of a community, but also how to take care of yourself—with resources like the counseling center, chapel, RAs and wellness center offering the support you might need.

Hood students have their pick of beautiful, comfortable spaces for relaxing, studying, grabbing a bite to eat or hanging out with friends.
