About this course

Western New York has long history and significant foothold in food processing industry with hundreds of food processing operations located from Buffalo to Binghamton. The two new yogurt plants opening in Genesee County further empowers the region’s robust food processing profession. GCC’s Food Processing Technology (FPT) Associate in Applied Science degree allows students to take advantage of this growing industry and be prepared for the new jobs being created every year throughout region. Graduates of GCC’s FPT program will understand basic principles of food science including the chemical, physical and microbiological properties of food, as well as the technology used to create an abundant supply of safe, nutritious and delicious food supplies. In addition to classroom lectures and science laboratory experiments, students complete a related FPT internship as part of the program.
