About Elmira College

In Elmira College education based in the leadership core of the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, combines with communication and global citizenship to prepare you for a lifetime of success. Elmira is one of only 268 colleges and universities nationwide found worthy of a prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Charter. In fact, Elmira College's Phi Beta Kappa chapter has been lauded as the best chapter at a liberal arts college in the nation.

Our students, empowered by an engaging academic program and real-world experiential learning, become successful contributors to our global society.

An education is not just about acquiring information and preparing to enter the workforce. Leaders in any profession need motivational skills (learned in psychology and the social sciences) and analytical skills (learned in the natural sciences and economics). Leaders need historical prospective. As George Santayana declared, "those who fail to learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them." Leaders need to be effective communicators, learned in literature, and the fine and performing arts.

Elmira College's academic core features this wide range of critical learning skills, thereby encouraging students to become lifelong learners in a broad base of fields of interest and study. The most successful college alumni invariably refine their career directions throughout college and beyond.

Campus information

Acres of brick walkways, fountains, iris gardens, and Collegiate Gothic buildings make this one of the nation's finest college campuses. The Philadelphia Inquirer described EC as the "picture-postcard perfect" campus. Elmira College people are even better.

It is a setting that fosters the engagement of our bright and community-minded students. Our students are curious and creative, open to the wide range of opportunities available at EC. Visit us and feel it for yourself.

The Town of Elmira is located in the upstate Fingerlakes region of New York State in Chemung County. The Town of Elmira is in the south-central part of the county, surrounding the City of Elmira on three sides and is home to 3,000 plus households.

All first year students begin their Residence Life experience by completing a survey regarding their housing preferences. The survey includes questions about how you study, whether you’re an early or late riser, how neat you are, and many more. These questions help the professional staff in Residence Life house you with a roommate who seems like the best fit. Once you receive your housing placement you will notice that it is in one of two buildings: Anderson Hall or Columbia Hall. Descriptions of these specific halls can be found in the Residence Hall Section of the website.

All of these buildings have double rooms, which contain desks, dressers, closets or wardrobes, and twin-sized beds. If you are in need of a longer mattress, extra-long sizes are available upon request. The rooms also have Wi-Fi and cable television. Each residence hall has free laundry facilities, pantries you can cook in, and lounges where you can spend time with friends.
