About Elmira College

Founded in 1855, Elmira College is a private institution with a total of 1,101 undergraduate students and within the city that surrounds its 80 acres grounds. It was the first women’s institution to offer degree requirements that were equal to those of the general men’s colleges at the time. However, from 1969, the college has transformed the system and has allowed for co-educational institution, admitting men and women.

Located in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, students will have the opportunities to participate in several of the 100 clubs or organizations. However, unlike other tertiary education institutes, it does not have any Greek system on campus but instead, it compensates for the better by hosting collegewide dances and social events. According to Elmira College, it strongly believes that all its students should reside on campus throughout their years in college. Their intention is purely simple, to help cultivate close relationships among its students.

Outside of classrooms, students who are curious about getting to know the city can take walks to the nearby downtown hips and restaurants or even visit the Clemens Centre, which regularly hosts music performances, Broadway shows, and national entertainers. Other than being known as the Soaring Eagles, Elmira College’s sports teams also compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference, United Volleyball Conference and the Empire 8 Conference in NCAA Division III.
