An Associate of Science degree in Medical Assisting Technology is an increasingly demanding career for those who would like to work in a medical environment. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of medical assistants is expected to grow much faster than average for all occupations through the year 2015. The health care industry is going to expand because of technological advances in medicine and the growth and aging of the population.
The Program prepares students to be multi-skilled allied health professionals specifically cross- trained in different areas of patient care, which include clinical, laboratory, administrative and basic radiology procedures. As a medical assistant, you perform a wide range of duties for instance medical and surgical asepsis, taking vital signs, assisting physician with examinations and surgery, drawing blood, administering ECGs and administering medications. Administrative duties include patient reception, appointment scheduling, recordkeeping, filing, coding, insurance handling, typing medical correspondence and computer applications. Laboratory functions include specimen collection, performance of basic laboratory tests, and basic X rays procedures. Our Medical Assistant Associate Degree program provides students with practical hands-on training at our well equipped and state of the art laboratories.
