About California Lutheran University

Situated in the suburban area of Thousand Oaks, California, California Lutheran University (CLU) is a private, liberal arts institution that was first established in 1959. Currently, it has almost a total undergraduate enrollment of 3,000 students and 1,300 graduates who are enrolled in some of their five major academic schools – College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Management, the Graduate School of Education, the Graduate School of Psychology, and the Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary.

With the main campus size of 290 acres, it is also located fairly close to the Pacific Coast and accommodates university buildings with small class sizes. Potential undergraduate students have 36 majors and 35 minors to choose from, with master’s and doctoral degrees available for other students. There are also off-campus CLU-affiliated centres in places such as Berkeley, Woodland Hills, Westlake Village, Oxnard, and Santa Maria.

Within the campus, a variety of accommodation complexes for students are available including complete and modern sports facilities with a 9,500 square foot Forrest Fitness Center, the Samuelson Aquatic Centre, and 2 stadiums. There are also 21 different sports teams in a wide range of sports and have achieved numerous awards such as winning well over 60 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships between them since 2006.

California Lutheran University’s ranking in the latest 2018 edition of Best Colleges is a Regional Universities, 14, and according to THE World University Rankings, it is placed on 437th. Its tuition and fees are currently at RM16,1791.37 ($41,363).

Campus information

The Cal Lutheran campus is located between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, and a mere 20 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean situated among the slopping hills in Thousand Oaks, California. Several of the University’s off-site centers can be found in Woodland Hills, Westlake Village, Oxnard, and Santa Maria, whereas in Berkeley, the University’s Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary is located.  


On the very first day of moving into the residence halls allocated to you, you will be welcomed by the Cal Lutheran community and have the chance to meet people of different nationalities and cultures.All undergraduate students are promised with opportunities to live in the residence halls. Similar to full-time students (meaning those who have 12 or more units per semester) undertaking a traditional undergraduate program are required to live on campus throughout their Junior year. On the other hand, seniors can choose to either live on campus or elsewhere.
