About this course
Run by Scenario Arts, the University of Worcesters University Certificate in Dramatherapy is the only course of its type in the UK.
Available at intermediate or advanced level, the course provides an experiential introduction to the theory and practice of Dramatherapy as a foundation for professional training.
Dramatherapy itself is a form of interactive group work and a method of play. It is a means of discovery, unlocking and working with different aspects of the self in a spontaneous and imaginative way. It is an active form of therapy that emphasises movement, voice, characterisation, embodiment and expression through drama. The focus is not on performance, but on the creative process itself.
Students are actively encouraged through practical work to develop a greater awareness of self and others and the group process. They are also introduced to the basic theories of psychology and appropriate eclectic models in psychotherapy as well as essential drama and theatre skills. Much of the learning takes the form of experiential workshops and the art of the dramatic process. Teaching also consists of lectures, video work and group discussions.
