Entry Requirements

  • GCSE: For all applicants, Grade C or above, or Grade 4 under newly reformed GCSE grading, in English Language, or equivalent. Please note the University does not accept Level 2 Key Skills, Functional Skills or Certificates in Adult Numeracy and Literacy as suitable alternatives to GCSEs.
  • A-level subjects: No specific subjects required. Points from A-Level General Studies and AS-Level subjects (not taken onto full A-Level) can be included towards overall tariff. You must have a minimum of two A-Levels.
  • EDEXCEL (BTEC) Diploma: No specific subjects required.
  • Access: Achievement of the Access to HE Diploma; to include 15 level 3 credits at merit.
  • Baccalaureate IB: No specific subjects required.

Curriculum

Year 1

The first year introduces you to a range of concepts and applications relating to the practice of drawing and print. You will be encouraged to explore the way in which drawing may be developed through a range of traditional and digital media, processes and ideas. You will be introduced to studio practices that include drawing, printmaking, painting, bookmaking, stitch, photography, fabrication techniques in wood and metal, and ceramics.

There will be a range of visiting speakers and a Professional Practice and Work Experience module to enable you to begin to locate the context of your own practice, hear from industry professionals and find out about future career options.

You will study the following compulsory modules:

  • Introduction to Drawing and Print
  • Critical Perspectives
  • Exploring Practice in Drawing and Print
  • Professional Practice and Work Experience in Drawing and Print

Year 2

You will focus on developing the relationship between form, content and the language of materials. Further workshop activity enables you to refine your skills base. The Professional Practice and Work Experience module in year 2 provides a series of structured lectures and events designed to help you explore your potential for employment.

All students exhibit their work within UWE and at external locations. You are also encouraged to undertake work placements and live projects. There is the opportunity to undertake an international exchange programme at one of our partner institutions in Europe or further afield.

You will study the following compulsory modules:

  • Developing Practice in Drawing and Print
  • Creative Analysis
  • Professional Practice and Work Experience in Drawing and Print 2

One of the following optional modules:

  • Developing Practice in Drawing and Print 2
  • International Exchange

Year 3

Your final year consists of a self-directed programme of study that reflects your particular strengths, abilities and ambitions developed through a combination of critical discussion, contextual awareness, visual research and creative practice. The year culminates in the presentation of a substantial body of work. The Professional Practice and Work Experience module in year 3 focuses on self-promotion and readiness for employment.

  • Independent Research Project
