Accommodation

At Surrey, we offer a variety of good-quality accommodation, with a choice of several different price bands. Arranged in Courts of Residence (groups of self-catered housing), our campus accommodation has been carefully designed to meet your needs and provide you with a comfortable living space to make your own. As a first-year student, you will be guaranteed a place in University accommodation. Living in the Courts of Residence is a great way to meet new people and find your feet, and we’ll do everything we can to make you feel at home. Enjoying all the benefits of the Courts of Residence on the Stag Hill campus, our accommodation at nearby Manor Park is situated in an area of great natural beauty. Designed as a car-free student village, with a subsidised bus service, Manor Park offers a first-class learning and living environment. In addition Hazel Farm on the edge of Guildford provides an affordable option with the added benefit of a free bus pass valid throughout the town. You can access the University easily from all of our Courts of Residence, whether on foot or by bus.

Campus

The university moved in 1968 to a new 30 ha (74-acre) site on Stag Hill in Guildford, adjacent to Guildford Cathedral (see picture, below). A further 90 ha (222 acres) allocated to the university remained undeveloped until 2005. The new Manor Park campus, designed as a car-free village, is 1.6 kilometres (1 mi) from the Stag Hill campus and on the other side of the A3 trunk road. It combines residences for students and staff, buildings for research and teaching, and sporting facilities. There are over 70 active societies for you to get involved in.

The University of Surrey is situated in the market town of Guildford in the county of Surrey which is in the south east of the UK. Guildford is 40 minutes by train to the south west of London. The University is also close to both Heathrow and Gatwick international airports. The busy town centre of Guildford is just 10 minutes walk or a short bus ride from the university campus. Guildford has a population of around 250,000 and is one of South-East England's top shopping centres. It has an excellent nightlife, with 3 nightclubs, a nine-screen cinema and many pubs, bars and restaurants to suit every taste and budget. Guildford is on the main line train route from Portsmouth to London and close to Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
