About this course

Course aims to connect theory and practice in language teaching, providing up-to-date knowledge of principles and issues in the field, together with consideration of their practical implications; designed for those working in the field of English as a second/foreign language; includes general core modules: introduction to applied linguistics, phonetics and phonology, english grammar and lexis, discourse analysis, second language learning principles, language curriculum design, research Design; plus pedagogically oriented options, including: teaching spoken language, teaching written language, teaching young learners, IT for language teachers, language testing; students must choose 1 of 3 tracks: dissertation (core modules, three options and a 15,000 word dissertation); taught (core modules and six options); or portfolio (core modules, three options and a language teaching portfolio).

This programme is designed to improve practice through evidence-based research, therefore where appropriate participants will undertake research in their classrooms and those of their colleagues and become skilled observers.
