About this course
Contemporary Arts is a course which allows you the opportunity to develop both practical and creative thinking skills in multidisciplinary arts, visual communication and experimental textiles. The first year offers a broad introduction to communication with images, cultural and contextual references, design exploration in textiles and development of fine art language. Through lectures, workshops, educational trips, group / peer activities and one to one tutorials you will explore all aspects of contemporary arts and build on your professional practice with live proposals and experience of work. In the second year, you will focus on a specialism and refine your skills and knowledge to progress onto a further degree programme or employment,
The programme has a strong emphasis on developing practical skills alongside specialist knowledge and understanding to meet the needs of the sector. BTEC Higher Nationals are recognised by employers as providing learners with the key concepts and practical skills for direct progression to either Higher Education or employment within Contemporary Arts and the Creative Industries.
Learners will have the opportunity to master the essential techniques for their chosen pathway within contemporary arts which will include three main pathways - multidisciplinary arts, visual communication and experimental textiles in both the practical and creative thinking skills at a higher level.
