Entry Requirements

  • Foreign qualifications recognized by the University of Zurich must primarily be based on general education.
  • Must represent the highest possible graduation diploma from a high school or secondary school in the respective country and entitle students to a place at any university faculty and to any field of study in that country.
  • Proficiency in German and English


  • Basic knowledge of chemistry, biology, biochemistry, maths and physics, students begin specialist study in the third year (BSc).
  • Students must obtain 60 credits for their specialist studies over two semesters. Knowledge of the three traditional discplines of chemistry is deepened (30 credits). Students can specialize through required electives (20 credits), while electives (minor, 10 credits) enable a broader or more in-depth education. You can determine your own track through your choice of electives and required electives. Electives may also be chosen from biochemistry, giving your degree a life science focus.
