The Val Cook Scholarship, named after BMIHMS long term Alumni Ambassador and sponsored by the school`s Alumni board, will grant one student a scholarship (tuition, room and board) for the first year of their Bachelor course (diploma level). Applicants must have 2-5 years of hospitality/ tourism industry experience.

Val cook spent a lifetime devoted to hospitality and hospitality Education. Val studied at the prestigious Westminster College London (1959-1960) before working in a number of high profile restaurants and hotels in the UK, Australia and Korea including Grosvenor House London and the grand opening of the then ground breaking Ayres House complex in Adelaide

Val Cook was a member of the founding team of BMIHMS in 1991 and over the years “Cookie” as he became affectional known by the Alumni held many leadership positions and was instrumental in a success of BMHIMS.

Val Cook passed away in 2017 and his legacy is remembered every year.

To receive the Val Cook scholarship is an honor recognizing an exceptional and passionate candidate.



  1. mplete the scholarship application form
  2. Provide a 1 page cover letter outlining:
    • Why you wish to undertake a course with BMIHMS at Torrens University
    • Outcomes you hope to achieve from your studies
    • How the qualification gained will assist you in achieving your future career plans
    • Outline your merit and need for a scholarship
    • Personal achievements, interests and extracurricular activities
    • Any relevant work and/or volunteer experience
    • Future career aspirations;
  3. Submit a resume and photo
  4. Complete the BMIHMS application form
  5. Provide certified copies of any certificates and transcripts received (including year 11 & 12 results)
  6. Attach letters of reference from teacher/s, friends, or employers
  7. Submit your scholarship application and supporting documentation via email: titled ‘Scholarship Application’
  8. A Course and Careers Advisor will be in contact with you to organise an interview
