There are 6 campuses in Hamilton and the greater Waikato region. The three main campuses are in Hamilton, in the central city, Rotokauri (north Hamilton) and at the Hamilton Gardens. Smaller satellite campuses are in Thames, Te Kuiti, Otorohanga. There are purpose-built training facilities to provide students and staff with the best possible environment to learn the skills necessary to succeed in their industries. Since 2003, more than $60 million has been spent upgrading facilities, through the commitment to a campus modernisation plan. As a result we have some of the best industry training and student facilities in the country. There is more developments planned, including a new Engineering and Trades facility, a new Media Arts complex, and refurbishments to teaching spaces.
To date, Wintec facilities include a student training restaurant, hairdressing and beauty salons, science laboratories, a veterinary surgery, a student radio station, music studios, an art gallery, childcare facility, greenhouse and practice barns, engineering and trades workshops and technology spaces. Providing modern facilities for students, staff and the wider community to meet their needs of today and into the future, makes Wintec one of New Zealand’s most modern institute of technology. One of the iconic facilities is the award-winning Gallagher Hub built in 2007. It is a multi-purpose social centre with 140 computers for students to use and 24-hour student and staff access.
The refurbished heritage building Wintec House opened in 2010. Located on the corner of the Hamilton city campus, this multi-purpose building has won numerous regional and national architectural awards. It is home to the flagship events venue, The Atrium, where hundreds of awards dinners, conferences and special events are held. It also features teaching spaces with modern hair and beauty salons and its business floor is home to the Waikato Chamber of Commerce. Wintec is currently building a $25m engineering and trades facility at the Rotokauri campus which when opened will be the country’s most modern training facility of its kind.
