About this course

By pursuing this program at Otago Polytechnic, students may gain sound knowledge, better understanding and practical appreciation of civil engineering processes as well as its theory. This program will also help students to develop their ability to apply learning in a practical and innovative way. Students will use this qualification to gain the necessary expertise and they may find work as an engineering machinist and toolmaker, designer or even specialist technician. Employment opportunities may arise in areas such as light fabrication sheet metal work, heavy fabrication for building or truck and vehicle frames, or welding.

Entry Requirements

  • 48 NCEA credits at Level 2 in four subjects including 12 in mathematics (algebra and calculus) OR equivalent qualifications/skills/experience.
  • 8 NCEA literacy credits at Level 1 or higher, including 4 credits in reading and 4 in writing.
  • International students will be individually assessed to ensure they meet diploma-level entry requirements.

English Language Requirement

  • IELTS: overall band score of 6.0 (with no band score less than 5.5).
