About this course

This qualification will give you the knowledge and skills which are necessary to provide interior and exterior design advice in a residential environment. You will learn about colour schemes, fabric use, room plans, layout and design, and more.

The skills you learn will enable you to seek entry-level employment as an interior designer, or in specialist trade showrooms and design stores, as a consultant or as an assistant to kitchen or bathroom designers, architects or other applicable industry specialists.

To successfully complete this qualification, you need to have an eye for detail and colour, the ability to perform self-directed research and present work in an attractive and professional manner.

Entry Requirements

  • You can study this programme part-time if you’re an international student living in 
  • New Zealand and are in paid employment with a valid work permit. However, we recommend that you contact the university directly before applying to enrol as some of the course content is specific to New Zealand.
  • Able to read and write well in English so that you can understand course materials and also submit written assessments. There are criteria that must be met if English is not your first language.
