About Erasmus University Rotterdam
Erasmus University Rotterdam (Dutch: Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, referred to as the EUR) is a renowned research university located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The university is named after Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus, a 15th-century humanist and theologian. Erasmus for centuries has enjoyed popularity in academia, being a person who should always be remembered by Rotterdam.
EUR is driven by a strong focus on current social issues. The university concentrates its expertise on issues of management, organisation and policy in the public and private sectors on the one hand, as well as on the field of sickness and health care. Erasmus University Rotterdam has bundled its education and research in four areas of expertise and seven faculties:
- Health - Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences/Erasmus MC and institute of Health Policy & Management (iBMG)
- Wealth - Erasmus School of Economics and Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University
- Governance - Erasmus School of Law and Faculty of Social Sciences
- Culture - Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Philosophy
Erasmus University Rotterdam has been among the best in all kinds of world rankings. In 2007, Erasmus University Rotterdam ranked top ten of the top universities in Europe by " Financial Times ". In 2014, Erasmus University Rotterdam is ranked by Times Higher Education as 20th in Europe and 73rd in the world, with its social sciences as 47th, and clinical and health as 37th in the world.
The university counts as its core tasks: to generate knowledge from research, to share knowledge in education and to transfer knowledge to the community. Its driving forces are academic curiosity, critical reflection and social engagement.

SSH – Student Housing
Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is able to provide in part the demand for accommodation by international short stay students staying in the Netherlands 12 months or less. EUR has reserved almost 500 furnished rooms at Netherland’s largest provider of student housing SSH. Prices for short stay accommodation range between € 435 and € 680 including services.
HousingAnywhere
HousingAnywhere is a housing platform listing the accommodation supply of Dutch students going on a foreign exchange programme. The supply includes the occasional apartment and is limited. HousingAnywhere can't guarantee rooms for all exchange students. Rental prices start at € 300 a month ranging anywhere up to € 750.
Private Market
On the private market, there will be an endless range of rooms and apartments owned by an infinite number of private individuals. Room rates start at about € 300 ranging up to € 1500. The use of gas and electricity is usually included in the rent (but not always). Landlords usually charge a deposit.
Hostel
The Stayokay hostel is a good place for students looking for temporary accommodation until a student room becomes available. Students of the Erasmus University get a special rate. EUR’s international students can stay at the Rotterdam Stayokay Hostel for € 24 a night including breakfast and free Wi-Fi.
Campus
Woudestein campus houses the majority of Erasmus University’s faculties, schools and research institutes. At Woudestein, Erasmus University is building tomorrow's campus. We give students the opportunity to study, recreate and live in an international environment, with excellent facilities.
Erasmus MC houses the Erasmus University Medical Center. Erasmus MC, situated in the heart of Rotterdam, is the Netherlands' largest and most multi-faceted academic medical center. Because of its height and remarkable design it is a genuine Rotterdam landmark. The university buildiing is situated next to the medical center. This creates an academic hub where care, education and research comes together.
The city center campus of the Erasmus University houses the Erasmus University College (EUC) faculty, staff and students. The building on the Nieuwemarkt is the original 1923 City Library, one of the very few buildings to survive the bombing of Rotterdam in 1940, now completely renovated for Erasmus use.
