About Raffles University Iskandar Malaysia

Raffles University Iskandar (RUI) is a private, multi-faculty and comprehensive university founded in 2012 and based in Johor in Malaysia. It has already established a reputation for providing excellent opportunities for young people to achieve their full potential and develop themselves into successful professionals and world leaders.

RUI is the only private institution in the Johor State, approved by the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia, accredited to issue Bachelor degree courses in Design university bachelor degrees in Design. RUI also offers comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate courses undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in business and social sciences, including Education and Psychology. All programmes at RUI are fully certified by the Malaysian Government.

RUI is part of Raffles Education Corporation (REC), the largest provider of higher education in the Asia-Pacific Region.

Campus information

Raffles University Iskandar’s temporary campus is strategically located in the heart of Johor Bahru’s bustling commercial, shopping and administrative centre. It is only 1 km away from Johor Bahru Immigration Complex and a short drive to Singapore via the causeway. It is situated in Menara Kotaraya, which is next to Menara Ansar, and is linked to The Puteri Pacific Johor Bahru Hotel and Persada Johor Convention Centre. Plaza City Square, Menara Landmark, and Kotaraya Bus station are all within walking distance from our campus.

RUI will relocate into a new state-of-the-art campus, set on a 65-acre plot of land at prestigious Iskandar Malaysia’s EduCity Zone in the near future. RUI’s strategic location in Iskandar sets the university in a secure and fast growing region with high potential in economic, social and cultural development. Students can expect a vibrant and dynamic nurturing learning experience that will see their transformation into world-class professionals.

RUI is accessible from Sultan Ismail Airport (Senai International Airport), located approximately 35 kilometres away from Johor Bahru. RUI can also be reached via Singapore. The University is 45 kilometres away from Singapore’s Changi Airport.

The campus is a within walking distance from the JB Sentral railway station along Jalan Tun Abdul Razak and Jalan Jim Quee. It is connected to both the CIQ and City Square by pedestrian overhead bridges. Regular bus-services connect the campus with the rest of the city as well.


RUI provides accommodation assistance to students in helping them find a suitable place to stay. Renting an apartment in Johor Bahru can cost between RM800 to RM1600, a month. Room rentals vary between RM400 and RM600, depending on size, location, condition of the property etc. In general, accommodation rates nearby school areas and other conveniences are higher. However, prices in Malaysia are still considered very affordable compared to other countries.
