About Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology (NMIT)

Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology (NMIT) was established in 2011 to undertake maritime education, training, research and consultancy activities for the healthy growth of the local and regional maritime industries. 

The institute aims to provide its students as well as industry personnel with the right skills, knowledge and valuable experience that are required for a successful career in the maritime sector.

NMIT is a unique blend of expertise and industrial experience of professionals and academics from both Malaysia and the Netherlands. 

Supported by two of Dutch most prestigious maritime institutions, Maritiem Instituut Willem Barentsz and Maritiem Instituut De Ruyter, NMIT is committed in developing human capital needed to support the growth and development of Malaysian ports, shipping and logistics, shipbuilding and ship repair, and offshore oil & gas sectors.

Campus information

NMIT operates from 2 campuses; City Campus in Johor Bahru and EduCity Campus in Iskandar Puteri.

Both campuses feature state-of-the-art learning technologies and facilities for a conducive and supportive learning environment.

The campus is furnished with comfortable classrooms, lecture theatres, well-equipped simulation and computer laboratories, and readily available resource centre and libraries across the 2 campuses.

The NMIT main campus will be located in EduCity@Iskandar.

EduCity@Iskandar will be a fully integrated knowledge-based hub comprising of world class universities, knowledge-based industry leaders, industry-centric R&D clusters, academia-industry action centre, international schools & colleges, living & recreational facilities and conference & exhibition amenities that are of world calibre. Instead of just one university with various faculties, EduCity@Iskandar will have various universities with one specialised faculty each.


Students and staff in EduCity@Iskandar will enjoy an integrated campus experience with ready access to amenities including the International Students Village, which offers dynamic lifestyle and living options.

The first block of apartments for student accommodation can house up to 800 students.
