- SPM with 2 credits in Bahasa Malaysia and one other subject in Science or Mathematics
- Any other equivalent qualification
Curriculum
Year One - In the first year, trainees will acquire:
- Knowledge, skills and interpersonal behaviours required in:
- Obtaining general medical and ophthalmic history from patient
- Performing basic eye examination and eye care.
- Providing outpatient car in areas of ophthalmologist clinics, treatment room and specialty areas
- Giving health teaching to patients and the public
- Caring for patients before and after eye surgery
Year Two - In the second year, trainees are taught knowledge and competencies in:
- Caring for patients in the operation theatre
- Handling and maintaining ophthalmic surgical equipments and instruments
- Assisting in eye surgeries
- Performing assessments for low vision persons
- Instructing low vision persons in the use of low vision aids
