About University of Kiel
The University of Kiel (CAU) is the only comprehensive university and scientific center of Schleswig-Holstein.Here studying more than 24,000 young people, teach here researching some 2,000 scientists. Of the agricultural sciences to dentistry, it trains in currently 185 courses and about 80 different subjects. Among the four founding faculties theology, law, medicine and philosophy were added since 1665 remaining: natural sciences and humanities, business, agricultural and food science and technology. Kiel University’s guest houses are where international researchers reside during their limited stays at the University, whether they are in Kiel to teach, do research or undergo specialised training. With the grand opening of its new guest house as of 1st September 2008, Kiel University can now has more than three guest houses that provide a total of 74 residential units containing 120 beds in a choice location in Kiel.
The Guest House for international scientists and academics was the first Guest House of Kiel University built in 1974 on a beautiful estate in the wooded Düsternbrook neighbourhood, directly on the fjord. In 2008, an extension was built on the huge lawn of the Guest House.
The Internationales Begegnungszentrum/IBZ, which opened on 1st November 1989, became the second Guest House of Kiel University. Its location is one of the most beautiful in Kiel, directly on the fjord and still within walking distance of the centre of the city.
Campus
Once enrolled, the Christian-Albrechts-University allows Kiel (CAU), to make it more freshmen and new students to study start and the orientation on the university campus as easy as possible.
Numerous orientation activities of faculties, institutes and student councils provide a first insight into the organization of studies and the timetabling and support the contact with fellow students.
Kiel is the seat of government and the biggest city in Schleswig-Holstein, and its size officially qualifies it as a small metropolis. The advantage
in this is that it is easy to get around in the City on the Baltic. The University, the beach or the park are never far away.
To get to the university:
- Arrival by airplane: From Hamburg Airport you can take the airport shuttle »Kielius«, which makes the trip between Hamburg Airport and Kiel up to 19 times daily.
- Arrival by train: Kiel has a major train station with a modern rail-to-bike service. This bicycle station possesses a service point with its own workshop, and it offers a parking garage for bicycles that is open 24 hours. The parking facility has over 600 spots under surveillance and protected from the elements.
From the railway station, you can take a bus or taxi to the University, your student dormitory or wherever you're staying. Taxis wait outside the north exit (straight ahead), and buses are outside the west exit (to the left).
