Entry Requirements

  • The basic requirement for studying at a university is the so-called university entrance qualification, e.g. the Abitur. This qualification can be obtained in different ways and enables its holder to study either at a university or at a Fachhochschule (university of applied sciences). The entitlements listed below are those valid in Lower Saxony.

Preliminary examination of the university entrance qualification (HZB)
Prospective students who would like to have their university entrance entitlement (HZB) examined prior to applying for enrolment (i.e. university entrance qualifications on the grounds of vocational education and training, entrance qualifications for universities of applied sciences, EU university entrance qualifications acquired outside Germany) can submit their university entrance qualification documents to the University’s Registrar’s Office from the middle of May

In addition to the subject-specific studies of ethnology, students will study a second subject outside of the field of ethnology, forming an area of competence, for example economic sciences, law, gender studies, political science. The practical part of studies is formed by an interuniversitary semester. Students are encouraged to use this semester to conduct studies abroad and internships in one of the two areas of concentration.
Here students can take advantage of our cooperation with, among others, the National University of Singapore, the University of Dar es Salaam/Tansania as well as the Universitas Udayana Denpasar/Bali.
The Bachelor's programme goes beyond the scope of specialised knowledge by imparting key competences helpful to successfully enter into a profession (practice-oriented profile) or to take up a Master's programme (research-oriented profile).
