In 1953, Dr Tonse Madhava Anantha (TMA) Pai, a physician, educationist, banker and philanthropist, founded the Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, Karnataka, India. Since then, Manipal Group has pursued academic excellence while branching out across the globe. Dr Pai is known as the creator of the most educational institutes in the world. Today, Manipal Global Education Services (MaGE) is a global education giant, with five campuses in four countries – Antigua, Dubai, Malaysia and Nepal - catering to over 350,000 students, and diverse disciplines like medicine, applied science, engineering, business and multimedia.
Melaka Manipal Medical College, the first Indo-Malaysian collaboration in education, was among the pioneers of private medical education in the country. Established in 1997 through the vision of Dr Ramdas Pai, Chancellor of Manipal University, and the efforts of the late Datuk K Pathmanaban, former Malaysian Deputy Minister of Health, MMMC gives Malaysian students an opportunity to achieve their aspirations of becoming doctors and healthcare professionals. A new feather in Manipal Group’s cap, Manipal International University (MIU) is setting new standards for education excellence in Malaysia. MIU was granted with a University Licence in 2010, where Engineering, Biotechnology and Business are the core programmes at MIU. These are also the significant fields earmarked for growth, for Malaysia, and the region.
Manipal International University moved into its permanent campus in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan in January 2013. The campus is built on a 140-acre property surrounded by green hills and adjacent to a picturesque lake. The campus is built to adhere to LEED Platinum accreditation from the US. Showcasing state-of-the-art integration of green technology in the construction and maintenance of the building, the MIU Nilai campus is designed to provide the most conducive environment for students to excel. Dominated by an impressive double-arch, forming the iconic ‘M’ for Manipal, the campus currently houses both the School of Science & Engineering as well as the School of Management & Business in MIU. The campus is being developed in phases over five years, with a student capacity of over 20,000 once it is completed.
Situated in one of Malaysia’s most established university towns, Nilai offers a complete range of amenities catering to university living. The overall development includes a 1,000 seater amphitheater, sports complex, student centre and recreational facilities. Nilai is also known as the largest wholesale shopping hub in Malaysia. Restaurants and talls serving both Malaysian and international cuisine are affordable options for daily meals. Major fast food outlets like McDonalds, KFC, Burger King, Pizza Hut and Nandos are located close to the campus. They can easily be accessed via public transport.
MIU is located in a well-established university town of Nilai. It is just 45 kilometres south of the Kuala Lumpur city centre and 20 kilometres from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The town of Nilai is well-connected to Kuala Lumpur by train. Nilai is strategically located with easy access to expressways such as the North South Highway (PLUS), the Utara Selatan Hubungan Tengah Highway the leads to Kuala Lumpur city (45 minutes), Putrajaya (25 minutes), Cyberjaya (25 minutes), Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) (25 minutes), and the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) (20 minutes). Nilai is also well served by public transportation and the Nilai KTM Komuter station is less than 10 minutes away with fast trains to KL city and Seremban city.
MIU provides an off-campus hostel just 3.5 kilometres away from the campus. Desa Palma is a gated and secured apartment complex, with facilities such as park, playground, basketball court, and a convenience store. Surrounding the premises are amenities such as restaurants and eateries that offer international cuisine, clinics, laundry, saloon, and banks. The hostel features an apartment living concept. Students will have a choice between private and shared bedrooms. Each room is fully-furnished with a wardrobe, a study table and chair, bed and mattress, and curtains.
