About Czech University of Life Sciences

Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CULS), also known as the Czech University of Agriculture in Prague, was established in 1906. The history of the University started with the establishment of the Agricultural Department at the Czech Technical University (CVST) in 1906 by the Decree of Emperor Franz Joseph. For more than a century CULS has been the centre of higher education in agricultural and forestry sciences in the central European region of Bohemia.

The university lays emphasis on training future leaders who will be mindful of our planet´s natural resources, as well as related socio-economic and environmental issues. CULS educates students in crucial areas of safety in the food chain and protection of the biosphere, including sustainable land and water management.

In 2005 CULS became a Member in the Euro League for Life Sciences (ELLS).

Campus

The university offers Bachelor’s, Master´s, and Doctoral programmes in 6 faculties ranging from Agrobiology to Engineering. CULS is also home to the Institute of Tropics and Subtropics, which is the only educational and research institute of such kind in the Czech Republic.

  • The 3000-hectare University Farm at Lány is an educational facility that lends itself for practical training and for students from other agricultural schools and for the public. .
  • The fully-computerised main Library offers more than 100,000 volumes of technical literature and textbooks. Students can use the university network to gain access to bibliographic databases and to the Internet.
  • CULS has modern and spacious canteen (menza) facilities, which offer meals three times a day at extremely reasonable prices.
  • CULS pays special attention to students with disabilities. All Faculty buildings and most of the lecture halls have been equipped with facilities for wheelchair users. 12 specially equipped rooms are reserved for disabled students.
  • University Sporting Clubs organise several competition and leisure-sports activities for students and staff. CULS offers students a myriad of recreational facilities including an indoor swimming pool with an outside beach and sauna, gyms, and an athletics track.
